Poker Night - It's a wrap!

Our (we try but it doesn't always happen this often) monthly 'Poker Night' game took place on Saturday night, and again it was a night full of fun, plenty of drinks, great food, great company... and even a few surprises...

The evening started out with a couple of drinks, some cheese and a couple of rounds of pool. It was then time to kick off the Poker. With a few people short (who pulled out at the last minute due to other commitments), it was down to a competition between 5 of us, the winner, taking home the $50 cash prize, a $20 gift voucher for our local beauty salon 'Spa Physique' and a trophy.

I started out by hitting the ground running, winning a few early rounds to increase my chip pile to a comfortable lead. However, a couple of hours later I came to realise that either someone was pulling a swifty and pocketing some of my chips for their own personal gain, or I was playing that badly that I had dwindled my chip pile away. It was the latter.

Unfortunately, coming to realise the predicament I was getting myself into, I decided to take a gamble and go all-in on a pair of kings, with a flop consisting of an Ace, King and Jack unsuited, which was, in all seriousness, probably a silly thing to do. Turned out my bluffing skills and poker face weren't as good as I thought, because I came up against the eventual winner of the night, Nita, who had a Queen and Ten who ended up with an Ace high straight.

It was fun while it lasted however, and after leaving the table (reluctantly), I ended up playing myself in pool until someone else lost all their chips and could join me (which ended up not being for another couple of hours surprisingly enough...).

So in the end, Nita, who in most cases in past Poker Night events is usually the first one to leave the table because of her flamboyant approach to betting (going all in like I did too early, and on silly hands), was the eventual winner after coming from last place on early on in the piece.

It was a great night had by all... and a well deserved win for Nita. There are only a couple of months left before NYE and our annual NYE Poker Night Extravaganza! So there is still time for practice, and time to brush up on my poker skills before then.
